Phonoaudiology

The Speech-Language Pathologist is responsible for developing therapies and prevention methods regarding voice, speech, hearing, language and motor skills. The voice represents the individual's identity, when altered it can compromise work and personal life. The Speech-Language Pathologist is responsible for preventing, evaluating and treating voice problems and for improving vocal patterns.

It is usually through listening that oral communication is acquired.

When family members report speech delay, audiometry is requested, thus improving the quality of life of patients.

The Speech-Language Pathologist works in the rehabilitation of functions related to breathing, suction, chewing, swallowing and speech articulation.

The treatment provides better living and communication conditions. Speech therapy proves to be extremely effective in all life cycles: children, adolescents, adults or the elderly can benefit from speech therapy. Patients who have some delay in learning and language such as stuttering, Attention Deficit Disorder and hyperactivity (due to sometimes accelerated and/or disorganized speech), autism, Down syndrome, multiple sclerosis, among other conditions, are also benefited from treatment with a speech therapy professional.
